Originally from Southern California, Coleman Scott Moffett has lived and worked throughout the U.S. and currently resides in the Mount Washington Valley of New Hampshire. This diversity of experience has helped him mold a free flowing mix of vibrant colors and starkly toned monochromes into a singular artistic vision. A proponent of expressionism in photography, Cole strives to capture the subjective aspects of a person, story or scene. Over the years, he has studied with Gregory Heisler Jay Maisel and Jennifer McClure.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO PHOTOGRAPH?

When it comes to subject-matter, I'm very eclectic. Landscapes, still life, abstract and conceptual photography.... I need an abundance of creative freedom.  I also enjoy portraiture. Photographing people is very rewarding for me. Having worked as a Clinical Social Worker, I've learned to appreciate each person's unique character and life experiences. I strive to show people in a personal, yet visually compelling way.  No matter the subject, my goal is to bring a bit of the "unseen" to the surface.

WHAT IMPACT HAS DIGITAL EQUIPMENT & COMPUTER PROCESSING HAD ON YOUR WORK?

Digital cameras and computer software have allowed me to broaden my artistic view by leaps and bounds. I still shoot film, and will continue to depend on the techniques I leaned all those years ago. I've also started working with straight digital art, and photo encaustic. That adds an entirely new dimension to my work. Overall, creating an image I like and believe in supersedes any allegiance I have to a particular set of tools.

QUOTES THAT GUIDE YOU IN YOUR WORK

"Visual ideas combined with technology combined with personal interpretation equals photography. Each must hold its own; if it doesn't, the thing collapses."
---Arnold Newman

"Each precise object or condition or combination or process exhibits a beauty..."
--Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

“Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye... it also includes the inner pictures of the soul.”

-- Edvard Munch
